Claire…ification – It is NEVER too Late to Learn and Grow

A few weeks ago in a gathering with clergy, Bishop Ward reminded us that as we engage with others, we might consider opening with “I could be wrong, but here’s what I think…..”  We must always remain open to the possibility that we don’t know everything and as we listen to the perspectives of others, we can learn and grow.

We have several opportunities to learn and grow coming up in and near our district in the coming weeks that I would like to encourage you to attend.

  • On October 20 and 21, UMCom will be presenting two workshops per session to help local churches better tell their stories and communicate to their community and beyond. The workshops on the 20th will be held at St. James in Greenville and the 21st at Apex UMC. For more information and to register, visit:  https://capitaldistrictnc.org/umcom-presenting-workshops-church-communications/
  • On Sunday October 22, the Capital and Fairway Districts and Outreach Ministries of the NC Conference of the UMC will partner with the Coalition for Peace with Justice and a number of co-sponsors to hear how US citizens can play a positive role in pursuing a just peace in Israel-Palestine. No registration is required and all are welcome.  This will be held at St. Francis UMC in Cary. For more information, visit:  https://capitaldistrictnc.org/pilgrimage-peace-israel-palestine-interfaith-program/
  • On October 28th, Wilson Temple UMC in Raleigh will host several Lay Servant Ministry Courses. We will offer a Basic Class that is appropriate for ALL laity who would like to become better equipped to serve in their local church.  We will also offer a class on Leading Worship and a class on Lay Pastoral Care Giving.  Registration is required.  To learn more and to register, visit: https://capitaldistrictnc.org/lsm-courses-october-28/
  • On October 30th, the Capital District Dismantling Racism Team will hold a conversation on the crossroads of education and class and how race impacts both conscious and unconscious actions that impact our local school’s climate. Join the Rev. Chris Brady, Pastor of Wilson Temple UMC and David Rockefeller, retired school teacher and principal for this conversation.  This event will be held at Highland UMC in Raleigh at 6:30 pm and will include a meal.  To learn more and to register, visit: https://capitaldistrictnc.org/understanding-implicit-bias-impact-local-schools/

I hope to see you at one or more of these opportunities for us to learn and grow together!

Peace y’all,

Claire
